Manuel Gonzalo Eswagen, 66, of Captain Cook died Oct. 12 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Naguimba Banayoy, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines, he was a steward supervisor at Four Seasons Resort, coffee and macadamia nut farmer and member of the Filipino Christian Fellowship. Visitation 5 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 21) at Lanakila Congregational Church in Kainaliu. Memorial service at 6 p.m. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Lydia Eswagen of Captain Cook; son, Manny Eswagen of Seattle; daughters, Lovelyn Eswagen of Las Vegas and Desiree Eswagen of Oahu; sisters, Fely Eswagen of Honolulu and Sonnyflor (Robert) Vivencio of Los Angeles; brothers, Jimmy (Josie) Eswagen of Los Angeles and Wilfredo (Elma) Eswagen of Las Vegas; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Zeldawynn “Sas” Pohakulani Kailianu, 59, of Waianae, Oahu, died Sept. 21 at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Hilo, she was an employee of 76 Service Station and Cook’s Washerette, room cleaner and subcustodian for Maili Elementary School in Waianae, custodian for Kmart and Walmart and member of Paradise Chapel in Waianae.
